The Beautiful Girls

Mat McHugh &

The Beautiful

Girls

Periscopes, LaMar, Music, Blackbird and I Thought About You, amazing performances all over the planet, the voice of Mat McHugh, heart-on-the-sleeve songs, pioneering Australia’s surf-roots-reggae sounds; these are things fans worldwide think of when they thing of The Beautiful Girls.

Growing up with a single parent in a low-income suburb on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Mat McHugh was enveloped by a constant cacophony of sounds coming from all directions. From the late night skaters blasting punk rock and 80’s hip hop from their ghetto boxes, the rockers in the beach carpark with their windows down and the music blaring through the shimmering Summer air, to the Islander community throwing their Weekly parties soundtracked by sweet bass heavy dub and roots reggae. The vibration was thick, and hard to miss.

Halfway To Forth

Halfway to Forth

Halfway to Forth are brothers Dan & Kyle Lizotte, their music is honest and rootsy, with folk, country and blues shades.

Halfway to Forth spent a good five years  living in Adelaide SA where they could be found warbling away on the weekends in pubs, at cellar doors or passed out from the heat if it was that too damn hot time of year when their hearts wander South, back home to more reasonable summer temperatures

In 2009 they released a 7 track EP “Treasure for Memories” to no acclaim whatsoever.  They’re not so good at promoting themselves… In 2012 they found an old Chapel to rent cheap on a hill in Cudlee Creek SA.  The gracious caretaker let them turn the church into their studio (as long as they cleaned up before Sunday morning) and over the following months their debut album “Run for the Hills” was dreamt up and recorded in the wee hours of the morning. If you listen closely you can hear the pews creaking and the coffee urn clicking... It was spooky at times…
